How to Create or Import a Wallet

Learn how to create a new WireUp wallet or import an existing self-custody wallet using your recovery phrase so you can securely access and manage your digital assets.

WireUp gives you two ways to get started:

  • Create a new wallet to generate a brand-new recovery phrase.
  • Import an existing wallet using your current recovery phrase.

No matter which option you choose, WireUp is a self-custody wallet. Your recovery phrase and private keys remain under your control at all times. WireUp never stores or has access to them.

Option 1: Create a New Wallet

Follow these steps to create a new self-custody wallet.

Step 1: Open WireUp

Launch the WireUp app and tap Create Wallet.

Step 2: Review the Security Notice

Before continuing, you'll be reminded that:

  • WireUp is a self-custody wallet.
  • Only you can recover your wallet.
  • WireUp cannot reset or recover your recovery phrase.

Step 3: Back Up Your Recovery Phrase

You'll receive a unique 12- or 24-word recovery phrase.

This phrase is the only way to recover your wallet if you lose access to your device.

Best practices:

  • Write your recovery phrase down and store it in a secure location.
  • Keep multiple offline backups if appropriate.
  • Never share your recovery phrase with anyone.
  • Avoid storing screenshots or unencrypted digital copies.

Step 4: Verify Your Recovery Phrase

You'll be asked to confirm your recovery phrase to ensure it was recorded correctly.

Step 5: Start Using Your Wallet

Once setup is complete, you can begin using WireUp to:

  • Receive digital assets
  • Send cryptocurrency
  • Swap supported tokens
  • Use supported built-in strategies and features

Option 2: Import an Existing Wallet

Already have a self-custody wallet? You can import it into WireUp using your existing recovery phrase.

Step 1: Select Import Wallet

Choose Import Wallet from the onboarding screen.

Step 2: Enter Your Recovery Phrase

WireUp supports standard BIP-39 recovery phrases used by many popular self-custody wallets.

Step 3: Load Your Wallet

WireUp will detect supported accounts and assets associated with your recovery phrase across supported blockchain networks.

Step 4: Complete Setup

After setup is complete, your supported balances and transaction history will appear automatically.

Security Reminder

WireUp will never ask for your:

  • Recovery phrase
  • Private key
  • Password
  • Authentication codes

If anyone requests this information, do not share it.
