Recover Your Wallet with Your Recovery Phrase
Your recovery phrase is the most important part of your wallet.
If you lose your phone, replace your device, or reinstall the WireUp app, your recovery phrase is the only way to restore access to your wallet and assets.
Because WireUp is a self-custody wallet, only you control your recovery phrase. WireUp cannot access, reset, or recover it for you.
What is a recovery phrase?
A recovery phrase (sometimes called a seed phrase or mnemonic phrase) is a unique series of words generated when you create a new wallet.
It is the master backup for your wallet.
Anyone with your recovery phrase can restore your wallet and access your assets, so it should always be kept private and secure.
When will I need my recovery phrase?
You may need your recovery phrase if you:
- Get a new phone
- Reinstall the WireUp app
- Reset your device
- Restore an existing wallet
- Lose access to your current device
If your current device is working normally, you typically won't need your recovery phrase.
How to store your recovery phrase
Your recovery phrase should always be stored securely offline.
We recommend:
- Writing your recovery phrase down exactly as shown.
- Storing it in a secure location only you can access.
- Keeping a second physical backup in a separate secure location, if appropriate.
Never:
- Share your recovery phrase with anyone.
- Save it in email.
- Store it in unencrypted cloud storage.
- Send it through text messages or chat apps.
- Enter it into websites or forms claiming to be WireUp Support.
How to recover your wallet
If you're restoring your wallet on a new device:
Step 1: Open the WireUp app
Launch WireUp and select Import Existing Wallet from the onboarding screen.
Step 2: Enter your recovery phrase
Enter your 12-, 18-, or 24-word recovery phrase in the correct order.
Double-check that every word is spelled correctly and entered in the proper sequence.
Step 3: Complete setup
Follow the remaining setup prompts to finish importing your wallet.
If your recovery phrase is entered correctly, WireUp will restore your supported wallets and assets.
What if I lose my recovery phrase?
If you lose both:
- Your device
- Your recovery phrase
Your wallet cannot be recovered.
Because WireUp is self-custodial, WireUp does not store your recovery phrase and cannot restore access to your wallet.

Keep these best practices in mind at all times:
- WireUp will never ask for your recovery phrase.
- Never enter your recovery phrase into a support request, email, Discord message, X post, Reddit post, or any other social platform.
- Never share your recovery phrase with anyone claiming to be WireUp Support.
- Only enter your recovery phrase inside the official WireUp app when intentionally restoring your wallet.
Your recovery phrase gives complete access to your wallet. Treat it like the keys to a safe.

Can WireUp recover my wallet?
No. WireUp is a self-custody wallet and does not store your recovery phrase.
Can I change my recovery phrase?
No. A recovery phrase is generated when a wallet is created.
If you want a different recovery phrase, you'll need to create a new wallet and transfer your assets to it.
Is my recovery phrase the same as my device passcode or biometric login?
No.
Your device passcode, Face ID, fingerprint, or other biometric authentication protects access to your device.
Your recovery phrase is the master backup for your wallet and is required to restore it if you lose access.
What if someone else has my recovery phrase?
Anyone with your recovery phrase can restore your wallet and access your assets.
If you believe your recovery phrase has been exposed, create a new wallet immediately and transfer your assets as soon as possible.
